He shows up at Venice Beach in a button-up, chinos, and a backpack he never takes off, claiming he only learned basketball from books. Then he starts breaking ankles.
The “nerd” is Grayson Boucher — “The Professor” — and the disguise is the joke, because the man is one of the most famous streetball players alive. At 5’10” and about 150 pounds, he got zero college scholarship offers out of high school despite averaging 20 points a game, and was reportedly about to take a grocery-store job when the AND1 Mixtape Tour rolled through Portland in 2003. He won an open tryout on the spot, made the tour at 18, and went on to six seasons of ESPN’s Streetball. He even played organized pro ball — the Salem Stampede and the Atlanta Krunk — so the “scholar who can’t hoop” bit hides a genuine professional.
Watch the opponents. These aren’t pushovers — the guy in the white shirt can seriously play, which is what makes it land when Boucher starts cooking in full nerd costume. And keep an eye on his teammate doing all the actual defense while the Professor coasts on handles alone.
